Yesterday I made scones for the afternoon tea and thought of sharing them with you today, just in case you feel like having them in your Sunday"s afternoon tea. Scones are typical in the UK and they"re usually taken with the Afternoon Tea. Scones are accompanied of clotted cream and jam but finding clotted cream in Spain is not an easy task, therefore it can be replaced by butter or double cream, even though I take them only with jam (I used a figues one I made in September).

500 g de harina (yo uso la bizcochona)
2 sobres de levadura química (32 g)
Una pizca de sal
80 g de azúcar
150 g de mantequilla fría
250 g de leche fríaPrecalentar el horno a 200ºC. En un bol mezclar la harina con la levadura, la sal, el azúcar y la mantequilla cortada en trocitos. Mezclar bien con las manos para integrar la mantequilla. Añadir la leche y amasar hasta obtener una masa que no se quede pegada en las manos pero que tampoco esté demasiado seca. Extender la masa sobre una superficie espolvoreada con harina, deberá tener un grosor de unos 2-3 cm. Cortar los scones con la ayuda de un vaso de boca estrecha (unos 5 cm de diámetro) o con un cortapastas. Poner los scones en una fuente de horno, cubierta con papel de hornear, dejando más o menos un dedo de distancia entre unos y otros. Hornear durante unos 12-15 minutos o hasta que hayan cogido un leve tono doradito.

2 sachets of baking powder (32 g)
A pinch of salt
80 g of sugar
150 g of cold butter
250 g of cold milkPre-heat the oven at 200ºC. In a bowl mix the flour with the baking powder, the salt, the sugar and the butter in small pieces. Mix well all these ingredients using your hands. Add the milk and mix until you get a dough which is not very sticky nor too dry. Roll out the pastry on a floured surface, it should have a thickness of about 2-3 cm. Cut the scones with the help of a narrow glass (about 5cm diameter) or a pastry cutter. Place the scones on a baking tray, covered with baking paper, leaving a distance of a finger between them. Bake during 12-15 minutes or until the scones have a soft tan color.
